Invisalign FAQ’s

You must wear your trays for 20 – 22 hours daily to achieve optimal results and maintain your treatment timeline. It is crucial that you do not leave the trays out for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you don’t wear your trays for the required amount of time, it is possible that results may be compromised, and additional charges and aligners could be needed to obtain your desired final result.

It’s normal to experience some soreness and tenderness when you switch to a new tray. If you are experience soreness and tenderness with your retainer, you might not be wearing it as often as you should.
NO, you cannot eat in your Invisalign trays or your retainer.
While you are not wearing your retainer or trays, you can soak them in hydrogen peroxide. Change that solution 1 – 2 times per week.
If you lose your retainer or Invisalign tray, please call the office immediately to order a replacement! There will be a lab charge for new trays and new retainers.
In rare instances, slight superficial wear of the aligner may occur where patients are grinding their teeth or where the teeth may be rubbing. This is generally not a problem as overall aligner integrity and strength remain intact!
If you eat, drink, do not brush, floss, maintain proper oral hygiene through home care and preventative dental visits; you will have an increased chance of tooth decay, periodontal disease, inflammation of the gums, or permanent markings (e.g., decalcification).
If you want to brush your trays, use liquid hand soap and a disposable toothbrush. Clean your tray, aligner, or retainer with this toothbrush, and don’t forget to rinse the tray thoroughly before placing it back in your mouth.
YES! A final Invisalign brand retainer is included in your treatment plan. If you need any retainers in the future, there will be additional charges. Retainers typically last 2 – 3 years. If you want a bonded retainer at the end of treatment to prevent shifting of your teeth, there will be an additional charge to make a retainer at HPD or a referral to an orthodontist for a bonded retainer.
Your retainer is a lifetime investment to be worn each night while you sleep. Teeth have “memory” and want to shift back to their original position. Even with good retainer wear, your lower front teeth can shift slightly. Using your retainers keeps your teeth as straight as possible!
